Christmas joy saved by NetEnt
An uplifting and joyful celebration of Christmas that allows you to win some festive money at the same time as making money isn’t too easy to make. But Secrets of Christmas hits the spot like a piece of figgy pudding. That’s why I had to review it for G2G!

NetEnt has a new date for Christmas
Yes, I know. Every year it seems like Christmas has arrived that little bit earlier and that it’s a tad premature to be talking about the Secrets of Christmas slot in early November. But if you’re the type who likes to do their Christmas shopping nice and early and decide on the Christmas Day menu well in advance, you’ll be glad that Netent have told me about the Secrets of Santa video slot being released before we’re even in December. And unlike the theme of the game itself, the release date of the game isn’t a secret. If you read this Review carefully, you will release it’s already released.
I’ve been told this game is as Christmassy as Santa Claus climbing down the chimney with a sack full of presents and grabbing a piece of rum cake on his way out before jumping on his sleigh. And I love NetEnt for it.
Secrets of Christmas video slot has an original theme
Christmas-themed slots are nothing new but how will Secrets of Christmas by NetEnt compare to previous ones? Well, NetEnt didn’t exactly cover themselves in glory last year with the release of Christmas editions of Fruit Shop and Flowers which were just that: festive versions of the exact same game and by that I mean there was just some snow on the reels. But even though there are a few similarities to another game – I’ll come to that later – NetEnt appear to have learnt their lesson.
NetEnt are on my Christmas card list this year because I absolutely loved Warlords and Red Riding Hood one of the best slot releases this year. I’m not expecting Secrets of Christmas to be quite at that level because Christmas miracles can’t happen that often but this one should nonetheless be a Christmas cracker.
Free spins feature could make your Christmas
Good news or bad news? Ok, let’s be a Grinch! Bad news first. Secrets of Christmas is actually somewhat similar to Secret of the Stones, meaning that if you’ve ever played that slot before you will have seen many of the game’s features already. That includes activating the free spins when you get 3 or more Scatter symbols and being able to ‘blindly’ pick objects before starting the free spins that will help you win more during the free spins, such as multipliers, Sticky Wild reels, turning high paying symbols into Wilds and extra free spins.
You get one pick for each Scatter symbol in view up to a maximum of five, and a minimum of 10 free spins. In Secret of the Stones you pick, errrr…stones…but in Secrets of Christmas you pick from a selection of cute Christmas gifts to see what you’ve won. Get a few wild reels and extra wilds and this could be a Christmas to remember.
Onto the good news. Secret of the Stones is a great game so there’s certainly nothing wrong with having a game containing many of the same elements. But with its warm, fuzzy, feel-good factor about it, it’s more appropriate for the Christmas period than weird stones and miserable-looking druids.
More good news? Why not? It’s almost Christmas. Secret of the Stones isn’t available on any mobile device but the Secrets of Christmas casino game is available on both desktop and mobile. That means you can play a few cheeky spins on your mobile while you’re recovering on the couch from that huge Christmas dinner as everyone else watches boring stuff on TV.
Secrets of Christmas is a new slot… but traditional in every way
In an age where anything that was invented more than a year ago is old and uncool, I’m delighted that NetEnt have deliberately gone old-school with the new Secrets of Christmas slot machine. Really old-school.
Not a gadget, smartphone or Facebook account in sight. Instead, we’re getting symbols including warm lights, bells, candles, decorations, Santa himself and milk and cookies. Because Santa seems more like a milk and cookies sort of guy than a celery stick washed down with apple and seaweed juice sort of dude. It’s a classic 5×3 reel slot with 25 paylines. Fitting because Christmas is, after all, about tradition. If you want a slot that’s anti-tradition, maybe head to Jungle Spirit and its snazzy 1024 ways to win!
Play Secrets of Christmas when it’s not Christmas
Ok, this is weird. But I grew kind of fond for the game. I wouldn’t be surprised if this is a game I will play months from now.
It’s going to be a fun slot to play which will get you in the festive mood and as I’ve said already, if you like traditional rather than ‘new stuff only’, you’re going to love this one!
